ARTICLE 1 & 2All forms of discrimination are forbidden

No individual should be put at disadvantage because of their identity, beliefs or faith.

Human rights are unconditional. This means that everyone is entitled to them simply because they're human. No matter your sexual orientation, nationality, appearance, health, gender: all these rights are a given. However, big differences still exist, in Belgium as well as in the rest of the world.

Women are more often victims of violence than men. Also, their average income is lower than men's. They are generally pushed by society towards less well-paid jobs.

People of color do not have access to the same opportunities (most notably in terms of work) as white people. Statistics relative to Belgium, though, are hard to find. In France, people of North African origin who apply for a job have about 20% less positive responses than French candidates. Additionally, for an accountant position, a female candidate perceived as “pretty' is 52% more likely to land the job than a person considered less attractive. Furthermore, while ethnic profiling by the police is illegal, yet remains a daily practice and experience.

The artist and their vision

"Nowadays, women's rights have expanded and taken on new horizons, but, to me, the core principle remains the same; women have the right to choose what they do with their bodies and lives. They have a right to dispose of their body as they wish. "

  • If you look at this image, what is the difference between equality and equity? And what do you think represents the third image? 👇
    – Equality is giving everybody the same thing. In the first image, the three people benefit from the same support. But the support isn't adapted to the shortest person.
    – Equity is fair treatment. In the second image, each person has received support that isn't equal but adapted to their situation.
    – In the third image, no support is needed because the architecture has been changed, so as to be inclusive. The reasons behind inequity don't exist anymore.
  • Can you think of five main role film characters?

Among them, how many are women? Are they people of color? Are they LGBTQIA+? Are they people with disabilities? What do you think? Is diversity sufficiently represented in popular representation?

Crack the Code

Discover the name and last name of one person who's played a fundamental role in human rights. To do so, you must crack the following code. In this code, each number stands for one letter. You will find what letter each number represents on each trail segment. When you have the name, you can find out what their contribution to human rights was. Enjoy!

Look for mosaic benches in the park. On the right of the green bench, in the middle of the yellow mosaic tiles, you'll find a word written in purple. One of its letters is golden. It's the one you're looking for to replace number 6 in the code.
